Perfect Pushups
May 11th, 2009
Hello World, it’s me again. Yup, believe it or not your favorite Elder in Sacramento has made it another whole week!
We’ve been busy these last few days. This past Thursday was “Interviews” again with our mission president. It’s always nice to meet and talk with him, and as I look back and compare myself to the previous time we had interviews I can see that I’ve really learned and grown a lot.
This coming week is now the last week (i.e., week 6) of the transfer, and you all know what that means…. transfer calls! Not until next Monday though, so you’ll hear from me after that. And I will, of course, let you know what’s happened. Personally, I think a lot of Elders are going to get transferred out of this Zone, mostly since a lot were not at the end of last transfer. Now, whether that includes me… we’ll just have to wait and see.
In other news, this past weekend we were able to baptize the second of those two awesome roommates we’ve been teaching. Elder Groshong performed the baptism and I did the confirmation in Sacrament meeting on Sunday. I’m so happy for both of them, and I can see that they’re both really happy too.
This past weekend we ate dinner with the Simmons family in our ward. They’ve got a few young children and they’re really nice. As we talked with them we found out that Bethany (Sister Simmons) sings and has a very beautiful voice! Before we left she sang hymns for both of us. If you look up the song “A Child’s Prayer” from “The RM” movie soundtrack you’ll hear her, she’s the lead female vocal! She gave us each a CD before we left with that song, and a few others, a couple of which she wrote. We’ve been listening to that CD every day since we got it!
Here’s something interesting I’ve noticed since I’ve been out. The longer you’re in the field, the less you want to go home. By that I mean when you first get into the mission you do feel a little homesick, but as you serve diligently you really begin to love and care for the place and the people, suddenly you just don’t miss home so much. It’s a good thing though, and it’s happening to me. Now I’m starting to see why so many return missionaries come back to visit the place they served in.
Oh, and for what it’s worth, I’ve also begun to work out in the morning. Elder Groshong has these “Perfect Pushups” that I’m using every other day – in a nutshell they’re these things you use that make doing pushups like 10x harder (just Google it), but boy is it a workout! I’m going to keep at it though. Letters of support and encouragement are appreciated.
Before I go, let me wish all the mothers, including my own, a happy mother’s day (albeit a little late)! I love you all for the sacrifice you make. I think I almost teared up several times in Sacrament meeting this last Sunday. And of course calling home was a real pleasure. Big thanks to my family for being so awesome!
Well time is nearly up. I hope you all are doing well. Stay safe, read the scriptures. And write me some letters! I got some from people I haven’t heard from since the MTC. You know who you are! Thanks!
Love,
Elder Macpherson
