Bringing the World His Truth
June 1st, 2009
Hey everyone, family, friends, and acquaintances! This is your favorite missionary, Elder Macpherson, broadcasting again from sunny Sacramento California. Let me first start by apologizing for the lack of a post last week. I wrote my family to let them know that a crazy day made for almost no time to email… and therefore no blog post. Ah, but I’m here now, so cease your tears, and hear the wonderful tales of this past week.
I might as well start with something awesome: this past Saturday we baptized Colleen! She’s the one who, as she words it, “attacked us in the street” and asked for a Book of Mormon a few months ago. Apparently we only came back because she kept making tasty lemonade and sweet brownies. Hmm, well that’s only partly true… haha, but yeah she is really an awesome person. We’re glad she found us.
I guess I should mention that since we didn’t get transferred there’s not a LOT to mention as far as new things go… we love the Hurley Ward, and me and Elder Groshong are practically brothers now since we’ve been together so long (this is our third transfer together, something almost unheard of). I can’t complain. We’ve also stockpiled a LOT of food into our apartment. You can never be too prepared, right?
Speaking of food though, we’re blessed to be fed just about every night by members, so dinners are almost always taken care of. So far I haven’t had any crazy meals. However, the other night we went over to members who had made pizza with a TON of olives on it. If you know how much I dislike olives then you’ll know how much this scared me. But, I ate it anyway… and you know what? I liked it! I think something must be wrong with me… that or it’s a miracle. I’ll let you decide.
We had my 2nd Zone Conference on Friday. That was awesome, as always. Our president and his wife spoke on being bold with love as missionaries. Something I think we can all work on. On that topic, something fun that I like to do is called “car contacting” – basically when you’re waiting at a stop light you roll down your windows and talk to people in adjacent cars – most of the time they’re not interested, but it’s pretty fun to do!
Oh, guess what I bought a few weeks ago? A Typewriter! Yup, I now have the power to write letters with amazing efficiency and speed. Prepare to be bombarded with mail! (Or something to that effect, lol) Ooh, speaking of which, can someone send me the addresses of my missionary friends? (Phil, AJ, Brandon, etc.?) Thanks a ton!
Before I split, I want to make a point of thanking anyone who wrote me letters or emails this past week. A couple I got from people that hadn’t written me before. So thanks!
That’s about all folks, things are going great here. I LOVE being a missionary. Even when the office calls you on Friday night and tells you that you’re back on bike and they’re taking your car away. (Yes, that did happen… back to full time biking for us!) – yes, even when that happens, I still love being a missionary! Till next week!
Love,
Elder Macpherson
