Hamish is home!

Thank you everyone for following me on my two-year missionary adventure in Sacramento California. This site will remain online forever; as a reminder of the days I spent in the service of God. A reminder of the sad, happy, wet, dry, sweet, painful and the outright crazy. But most of all, a reminder of the love God has for his children. If you're curious what I'm up to these days, please visit my personal site.

Till we meet again,

The Garden

June 15th, 2009

Has it been another week already? I guess it has! Well, then here I am to tell the tale yet again, to you, my wonderful readers.

I think I’m finally getting acclimated to being back on bike. It was a bit of a rough transition at first, you get used to being “lazy” really quick, but now we’re having members help us a lot (especially with driving us around), and they’re really great with that, so it makes the whole transition a lot easier. For what it’s worth, I’ve already biked a good 150 miles or so since we got our bikes back!

Are you wondering why this post is titled “The Garden”? Well good! Because I would love to explain; you see the other day Elder Groshong got a package from his Mom, and in it was a Music CD called “The Garden.” It’s something he asked her to send a little while ago, and it’s awesome! It’s basically an “oratory allegory” — it tells the story of a “garden” through music, for example songs are from the seed who can’t grow, the barren tree, etc. (That represents us) And then it brings in the Gardner (a Prophet) who tries to help and tells the Garden of a man who can heal them (Christ), but the Landlord (Satan) comes in and tries to put off the Gardner (that’s one of my favorite parts!), I won’t give away any more, maybe some of you have already heard it, but it’s *really* good. Like a Broadway musical almost. So if you haven’t, find it and listen to it!

Speaking of music and such, I don’t know if I mentioned this before, but there’s going to be a mission-wide talent show at the end of this month. Elder Groshong is trying to secure a guitar so he can play a cool arrangement of that beautiful song “Come Thou Fount.” So that will be cool! He learned the arrangement from a member in our ward, Bro. Simmons, that’s Bethany Simmons’ husband (remember the one who has an *awesome* voice). They’re so nice, though sadly they just moved to Utah last week. We helped the Elders Quorum move them and it went really well. They said they’ll still read the blog… so Hi Bro. and Sis. Simmons! Hope you’re doing well! :)

I heard from several sources that both Allison Bill and Alex Mitchell are engaged. That’s crazy… ha ha, in a good way! Anywho, I wanted to congratulate them on that, I wish them the best in their marriages. I hear Allison’s waiting for AJ to get back, that’s really sweet of her, I’m sure he wouldn’t want to miss it.

We’re still working with a family now, the father’s a member, but the mother and son are preparing to be baptized in July, so that keeps us busy. As well as a bunch of other people we’ve met in the past few weeks. The big “test” so to speak is getting people to come to church, it’s also the hardest thing to do for a lot of people (working late is often an issue), but we know that every time they come, they do have a better week. We can promise that.

Well, time has flown. There’s a scripture in Jacob 7, where Jacob talks about life passing away “like it was as unto a dream” or something of the sort. Well, I know exactly how Jacob felt, because I feel like that too. Months have gone by already and I feel like I’ve been out for only a few days sometimes.

Thank you all for your continual support and contact, it keeps me going, you’re in my prayers. Pray that I won’t melt in the next few months. People say the weather has been abnormally cool lately… I guess that’s a good thing!

Love,
Elder Macpherson
