The Heat and a “Seat”
July 20th, 2009
Well, hello again to all my friends and family reading from all over the world. How are you all doing today? Are you ready for the next editon of the “Elder Macpherson Times?” Good, because it’s about to begin!
So, let me start by saying; this last week was crazy. But not the “crazy” that I like… no, unfortunately this week was “crazy” in all the wrong ways. Actually, let’s rewind a little, you see it started off really great! In fact we were teaching a guy named Courtney and he’s accepted a baptismal date for August 15th! We’re really happy for him. His fiance is actually a recent convert herself, and so he has a lot of support and encouragement, plus he’s been coming to church with her for a long time now. We actually needed to get permission to teach him from pretty high-up, since he lives in the Roseville Mission, but he’s moving down here soon, so we got the OK!
So yeah, that was cool… but the weather… oh my GOSH, that was NOT. I think I’ve run out of words for just how HOT it is here, so I’m starting to WRITE IN ALL CAPS TO GET MY POINT ACROSS. You see this whole week has been triple digits, and I don’t think I’ve felt this kinda heat before. (I know I know, I keep saying that… but seriously!) I had someone do the conversion for me, and it’s been peaking at OVER 40 degrees Celsius every day for this last week. Ahhh!
Okay, so it’s hot, you understand that now, haha. Well, I guess I could have gotten through the week with just that, you know, you “kind of” get used to being completely soaked in your own sweat after 15 minutes of biking, but I digress! You see the real pinacle of the week was when my bike seat got stolen. Yup, you read that right, someone stole my bike seat, JUST the seat. We got back from district meeting on Thursday morning and it was GONE. *Sigh* … “I HATE bikes” was Elder Robinson’s only comment as we just stood there in awe… after a long pause we decided that we would go to the nearby bike shop and buy a new one. Of course they had the seat, but not the “neck” for the seat (which was stolen too, “quick release”… it comes right out like that…) — so now here we are, we’ve walked on this SCORCHING day to the bike shop, I have a seat now, but no neck, the shop doesn’t have any in stock, and the nearest that “might” have them was way to far to walk to. So let me tell you that we were REALLY happy to see a friendly member of 2nd ward, Brother Bodhaine, just standing in the parking lot as we walked back home! We explained our situation to him and he kindly drove us (after his wife came out of the store) to the next bike shop. They didn’t have the neck either, but we put it on order, so it should come some time this week. Finally they helped us get a temp replacement bike (from another member) back to our apartment, and this sad story comes (at least for now) to a close. *Phew!* So there you go. Crazy, eh?
So the bike issue is, at the moment, partially solved. Hopefully my new neck will come in soon, and we can get it all sorted out, and I can get back on my own bike! In the meantime, we’re going to continue to brave the heat, and do our best here in Laguna Creek!
Hey! So my birthday is in two days (the 22nd)! We’re eating with some members (The Ostlers), and then we’re going over to the Hasegawas for more celebration! I’ll be 20! I want to thank everyone for their birthday letters & packages. Thanks to Mom and my family for the package you sent, the Smarties are greatly appreciated (I was starting to miss them!) and thanks also to Grandma for the awesome package she sent. The Rogers Maple Chocolate bar was completely liquefied in it’s wrapper (blame the heat!), but a few hours in the fridge and it’s solid again… though now it’s completely formless, haha, thanks! Thanks also Mom for the socks, those are always in demand! (PS. Please send that memory card back soon! ;P)
Well, it’s time to get going with the rest of our PDAY. Till next week, stay awesome everyone!
Love,
Elder Macpherson
