Just another WordPress weblog

Hamish is home!

Thank you everyone for following me on my two-year missionary adventure in Sacramento California. This site will remain online forever; as a reminder of the days I spent in the service of God. A reminder of the sad, happy, wet, dry, sweet, painful and the outright crazy. But most of all, a reminder of the love God has for his children. If you're curious what I'm up to these days, please visit my personal site.

Till we meet again,

Opposition in all Things

August 24th, 2009

Hey everyone! It’s me again… with more updates from Laguna Creek!

So I’ll cut to the chase; this last week was hard. I’m feeling the full force of what we call the elavator effect. It’s where you find people to teach, then teach them, Up goes the elavator, and then hopefully they get baptized (yay!) … but then you realize that you now have nobody to teach! Aaaaand the elavator comes crashing down… — Ouch..! Well, I guess I need to take this as an oppurtunity for growth, that’s why we have opposition right? It’s just too bad that sometimes… growing hurts.

Thinking about it though, Zone Conference came at just the right time. I don’t think I know of any missiory who doesn’t love Zone Conference. We had ours Thursday of last week, and it was awesome! President Jardine talked about a lot of things, but the big focus was on improving our planning and goal setting. Those are two things I’ve always felt weak in, but I learned a lot of things that day which I know will help us in this area. Our weekly planning the next day went really well… me and Elder Kilman applied a lot of the principles we learned from the training, and it just felt a lot more effective. Even though we have basically no investigators to plan for, we were able to plan in other activities that will help us.

So yes, this weeks goal is FINDING. We need to find people to teach. I miss the large teaching pool that I had in my first area… we always had someone to talk to. But things are harder here, and that’s going to be the challenge for us. We’ve set a goal though, and I know that if we work hard this week, we will achieve it. I’ll let you all know how it goes.

Till next time, take care,
Love,
Elder Macpherson
