Is it September already?
September 7th, 2009
Well, I guess it is! Happy Labor Day. Time has again just flown by here in Elk Grove, California.
As I’ve mentioned before, this summer has been very mild. And the last week was pretty nice too. We had a hot day or two, maybe, but it’s been nice and cool pretty steady for the last few days, and what a blessing that’s been! I’m still afraid of next summer though, what if it’s not as “mild” as this?
We had a good week overall. I feel like we’re still pushing hard, trying to move “up.” This last Thursday was our regular Interviews with President Jardine. That’s always an uplifting experience. He has a way of making you feel good, no matter what the situation.
Speaking of feeling good… President Jardine has been talking a lot about Manuel lately. Manuel is someone I had the pleasure of teaching while I was in East-Sac with Elder Groshong, as you may recall from previous posts. He’s one of the most kind and spiritual men I have ever met. His conversion & baptism was an amazing experience as well. President has met him a few times, and most recently at the Stake Conference in East-Sac, where he spoke of Manuel’s conversion story. I was really happy to hear about Manuel from him, I miss him a lot! It’s been over 2 months since I’ve been in East-Sac.
We had a sweet night on Thursday. We went out with two priests from the 1st Ward that we cover, I went with Joe, and Elder Kilman went with Jake. They’re both great helps, and we had a lot of success biking around and talking to people! I’m sure we’ll have a chance to do it again soon. (I’m actually at Joe’s house right now writing this)
The weekend was fun. We brought some people to a Temple Tour on Saturday. Those are always good experiences. The Temple grounds are so nice here at the Sacramento Temple, there’s lots of open space to have a picnic for example. There were lots of elders there that I know from East-Sac, who have since been transferred too, and I also met two sister missionaries from the mission north of us… Roseville!
Today we played some flag football with members from all over the Laguna area. It was pretty fun! And I’m not usually one to play football… but everyone kept telling me to play anyway. I’m glad I did in the end, it was better than sitting there. I ended up sliding on a dirt part of the field at one point and scraping up my knee, and getting dirt all over my shirt, but I’ll survive ;)
The whole zone went for lunch later… a Vietnamese favorite… Pho’! (Pronounced “fa” for the uninformed :p) — I’ve had it in Montreal before… but it’s been a while… it was SOO good. Mmmmm. It’s basically rice noodles in a BIG bowl, LOTS of broth, and your choice of meat, etc. inside.
Well. We’ve got another big week ahead. I’m trying to improve as much as I can. The mission is the time to do it. I know this gospel is true, if people would justy try it… they would know that too. Thanks for all your letters of support and encouragement. A special shout out to Grandma Snyder for her awesome letter! It was really nice to get. Oh, and Brandon Wong sent me one too, it was good to hear from him!
I love you all, take care!
