Hamish is home!

Thank you everyone for following me on my two-year missionary adventure in Sacramento California. This site will remain online forever; as a reminder of the days I spent in the service of God. A reminder of the sad, happy, wet, dry, sweet, painful and the outright crazy. But most of all, a reminder of the love God has for his children. If you're curious what I'm up to these days, please visit my personal site.

Till we meet again,

Welcome to the Brighton Ward

Farewell Elk Grovers! I shall return one day! Don’t forget me!

Anywho… Hey everyone! I’m back for another new and exciting update in the life of your one and only, Elder Macpherson.

So, I arrived safe in sound in my new area on Wednesday morning, the 23rd of September. I’m back to living in a somewhat less affluent part of Sacramento now, but then again most places are less affluent than Elk Grove (at least the part that I was in) — But I’m excited! The appartment I’m staying in has another companionship in it. Our District Leader, Elder Rose, and his companion, Elder Cannon. Elder Rose is new in this area too, though he’s the oldest missionary of the four of us. Elder Cannon is fairly young, and then of course there’s my new companion Elder Zimmerman, the youngest of us all.

So Elder Zimmermann and I have been together for a few days now and I’ve learned a lot more about him. He’s from Pocatello, Idaho, for the most part. Though he was living in Boise just a month before he left on his mission. He’s big into football. He played Linebacker for most of Highschool, and so he’s got a pretty athletic build. He entered the MTC on July 22nd (my birthday!) and so he’s been out for about 2 months now. He’s a really great guy. And despite his mission-age he comes across as being a lot more experienced than you would think! I’m really excited for this transfer.

The work right now in Brighton Ward has been going very well –  and consistently well –  for the last few months, with a baptism for each one. Our challenge right now (don’t you LOVE challenges? I do.) is to find more people to teach! … Hey doesn’t that sound familiar? Yup, we’ve got the same problem here that I had back in good ole’ Laguna Creek — recent baptisms, no investigators. But I’m not worried. The Stake President here, President Fisher, has a meeting with all the missionaries at the start of every new transfer, and he’s inspired all of us for these next 6 weeks — well, I know he’s inspired me! I know we will see success in this area as we work dilligently. THAT’S the secret… and nothing else.

Something cool as well is that my late  companion, Elder Robinson (aka. Joshua Robinson now) served here many moons ago. So apparently when he heard I was coming here he called some members here to warn th… *cough* I mean let them know about my arrival. Haha, isn’t that nice of him!

And now for this week’s Weirdest Experience. I had a really cool “small world” moment on Sunday. Y’see about 9-10 or so months ago (before I was a missionary) I was sitting in the Montreal YSA Branch (best branch eva!), in  a Gospel Doctrine class being taught by a certain Bro & Sis McAdams. Well, after class we spoke and I discovered that they were both from Sacramento! How cool, that’s where I was going to serve my mission, “Wouldn’t it be funny if I served in your ward”, I said. And then I promptly forgot — Well. Fast-forward to today (well, yesterday, to be precise) and WHO do I see sitting behind me in Sacrament Meeting, in the Brighton Ward!? YUP, it was no other than Bro & Sis Adams! Oh boy, was I ever trippin’ out! I tell you, the world is just WAY too small sometimes, especially in the church. We had a great talk, and a chuckle when he commented that he was now teaching Gospel Doctrine in this ward too! Haha…

Well, ladies and gentleman. I must needs be departed soon. The day is far spent, and there are miracles out there waiting for us. I know it, and I pray that we can find them! I hope you will too.

Your brother, and friend,
Elder Macperson

PS. I am SO excited for General Conference this weekend, aren’t you?
