Blog of Elder Hamish Macpherson

Just another WordPress weblog

Hamish is home!

Thank you everyone for following me on my two-year missionary adventure in Sacramento California. This site will remain online forever; as a reminder of the days I spent in the service of God. A reminder of the sad, happy, wet, dry, sweet, painful and the outright crazy. But most of all, a reminder of the love God has for his children. If you're curious what I'm up to these days, please visit my personal site.

Till we meet again,

Well the good news is…

October 26th, 2009

We’re getting a car here in the Brighton Ward!

The bad news is… it’s because Elder Zimmerman pulled some muscles and ligaments in his lower back, and so now he can’t ride his bike. Or do much at all for that matter! Don’t you just love a fresh dose of opposition? I know I do. Of course now you’re probably wondering, as the astute reader that you are, how did Elder Z hurt his back Elder Macpherson? Well, it’s really quite simple. Y’see last Monday, at our Zone Activity, he lifted another Elder on his shoulders so he could fix the volleyball net. He stood there for at least 10 minutes and after a little while relaxed the posture of his back, which subsequently caused the aforementioned back pain, and current disability.

It means we’re in the appartment more than we would like to be. And let me tell you, that is the worst. I can’t stand sitting around doing nothing. I want to be out there working, finding, and teaching people! Fortunately the Zone has been really helpful. We’ve done some exchanges over the last week so I can get out and work, and the members here in Brighton Ward are just awesome too. They’ve helped us with rides many times this last week.

The weather here is getting progressivley cooler. But we’ve been very blessed since last time I wrote, there’s been almost no rain at all! Of course, that won’t last forever, but hey at least we will have a car soon… something to shield us when it does.

The lady we found last week, Jill, called to cancel our appointment. But we setup another one for this week! And from what she said it sounds like she’s been reading the Book of Mormon, talking to her member friend, and even watching some of BYU TV. I’m excited to see her this coming week!

We did a missionary blitz last night in the Goethe Park ward. I was paired with Elder McNeill. (Elder Zimmerman can’t do much walking, obviously, so he stayed at a member’s house while I went to the blitz) Me and Elder McNeill had an amazing experience. A few doors down on the street we were tracting we found Jordan. He immediately invited us in and asked us to share our message… so of course we did. As we taught we found he was a sincere seeker of truth, and as we shared with him the message of the Restoration, particularly Joseph Smith’s first vision, he looked us in the eyes and said “Wow… I know that’s true. I know Joseph Smith is a prophet.” We invited him to be baptized, and he accepted right there. It was amazing! We then went on to teach him about the Book of Mormon, and continuing revelation from God. We gave him a copy to read for himself. He was astonished and excited. We told the whole zone when we all metup after the blitz, everyone loved it! The Goethe Park missionaries are going to have fun teaching him. I hope I can attend his baptism next month.

Well, my time is far spent! Please keep me and Elder Z in your prayers, I know a lot of you already do. So thank you. Enjoy your Halloween coming up too! I’ll let you know how ours went next week. Till next time.
