A Not-so-Happy Halloween
November 3rd, 2009
Hello again to my faithful readers (and perhaps the less faithful, who nevertheless try their best); I’m back again to tell the tale of another week in the Brighton Ward of the Sacramento California Mission. And it goes a little something like this…
Me and Elder Zimmerman have again spent the majority of our time in the apartment this last week. Though it’s him more so than me, since I’ve been doing exchanges with other missionaries on a fairly regular basis, and that’s kept me moderately busy. It’s still really hard nonetheless. I reallywish we could get back out there and work full force. I know we will in time, as soon as Elder Z’s back is healed up enough. I just hope that’s sooner rather than later.
Last Tuesday the assistants to the President brought the car to our apartment, so we’re now in possession of an ’08 Toyota Corolla, which is slightly older than other mission cars, but then it’s the only model with a 6-CD changer! Right on! Ha ha. We’ve used it a few times since, and it’s been a great help. The car I mean. (Though the CD changer is great too!)
Even with staying in the apartment more often, the week flew by fast. The last week of the transfer, in fact! Me and Elder Zimmerman are staying here in Brighton Ward for another transfer, yay! Speaking of Elder Zimmerman, you’re probably wondering why our Halloween wasn’t so happy, right? Well, let me explain…
On Friday night last week we went to the Ward’s Trunk or Treat where we were the judges for a chili cook-off and also the recipients of copious amounts of sugared goods (Can you see where this is going?) Well Elder Zimmerman wasn’t feeling too good that day, but thought he would be well enough to taste test. The next morning he felt pretty sick, and as the day progressed he went from feeling bad, to really bad. You know all those nasty flu side-effects? Yeah, he had all of those. Bad. And his back still hurt. When we called the health missionary, she advised us to get him some stuff from the Pharmacy to help rehydrate him… unfortunately he couldn’t keep anything down, no matter what he did. And so, at 9:30pm, the Zone Leaders came by, and me, them, and Elder Z (overcome with stomach and body pain) took off to the nearest Hospital ER. Where we spent the next few hours watching him hooked up to an IV… *sigh* — when he was better they let him go. We didn’t get home ’till late that night.
Elder Z is much better now. But I’ll never forget that crazy night in the ER here in Sacramento…
Well, I best be off. More adventures await on the horizon!
Love,
Elder Macpherson
PS.
We went to the temple today!
