Hamish is home!

Thank you everyone for following me on my two-year missionary adventure in Sacramento California. This site will remain online forever; as a reminder of the days I spent in the service of God. A reminder of the sad, happy, wet, dry, sweet, painful and the outright crazy. But most of all, a reminder of the love God has for his children. If you're curious what I'm up to these days, please visit my personal site.

And then things went south…

January 27th, 2010

Hello faithful readers! And welcome to another long awaited edition of the Elder Macpherson Herald. I must apologize first for the lack of an entry last week. I guess I got a little distracted, and before I knew it, I was out of time. Well, that won’t happen today, since I’m making this entry and update my first priority. Are you ready?

So these last two weeks in the Brighton Ward have been exciting. I’m very happy to say we now have plenty of great people to teach, and I really feel like the work has picked up. We have one person in particular, named Scott, who moved here recently from Wisconsin. He’s about 19 years old, and he’s staying with his Uncle’s family, who just so happen to be in our area. We started teaching and now he’s set a date for baptism on February 6th.

There’s also a family who moved into our area in the last month, where the husband is a member, but the wife is not — so we’ve begun teaching her about the church. She was taught a bit by some missionaries in San Diego before they moved here. Right now they’re going through some pretty hard times, but I can see that this gospel — as always — is something that would really bless their family.

If anyone out there is paying attention to dates, you’ll realize that this is transfer week. And so, you might ask, am I being transferred? Well, my friends… I am. And it is with great sadness that I’ll be leaving my 3-transfer home of the Brighton Ward to go down… down to the very bottom of the mission… to Tracy, in the Manteca Zone. (Food for thought: Manteca means “Lard” in spanish). I’ll be companions with Elder Deason, who is actually my brother in the mission sense, since he was also trained by Elder Groshong. Well, as I said, I’m sad to leave this ward that I know and love, but I’m excited to be going to an area WAY out there, where I know I’ll have lots of growing experiences, and where — yet again — I’ll be on a bike.

Speaking of which, I still need to buy one of those

Till next time, keep me in your prayers!

Love,

Elder Macpherson
