Hamish is home!

Thank you everyone for following me on my two-year missionary adventure in Sacramento California. This site will remain online forever; as a reminder of the days I spent in the service of God. A reminder of the sad, happy, wet, dry, sweet, painful and the outright crazy. But most of all, a reminder of the love God has for his children. If you're curious what I'm up to these days, please visit my personal site.

Till we meet again,

Vancouver 1989!

February 22nd, 2010

Vancouver 1989 … that’s when and where I was born. Of course, now all the hype seems to be with the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.

Anyway, salutations to everyone and welcome to another update from Elder Macpherson!  This last week in Tracy has certainly been an interesting one. The work is still going well, despite a lot of our investigators getting sick. I mentioned Mike last time, he’s coming along, but he hasn’t made it out to church, or held an appointment, since his whole family keeps getting flu’s and infections… opposition much? It’s kind of a bummer. But that aside, things have been great. Ed got baptized this last Saturday, and it was smashing. He had a lot of family and friends there. One missionary, Elder Evans, who taught him a few months ago came all the way down from Georgetown (which is 2 hours away) to see him get baptized. At the end of the baptism Ed bore his testimony and it was amazing, the spirit was most definitely felt by all in attendance.

Brianna’s doing great as well; her original baptism date was March 13th. We told her on our last visit that we’d taught everything, and that she could do it sooner if she wanted, even this coming Saturday. And so she is! We’re excited about that. The YW have really reached out and helped her feel welcome. I hear she’s one of the best students in her Sunday school class. We actually went to see her give a talk on “Divine Nature” for a mutual activity… she did a really great job. I can’t express enough how grateful I am for the axillary leaders that work so hard to plan and prepare activities for the youth. When you see things from the inside, you appreciate it a lot more.

We’ve been blessed in this area, as you can see. I hope it continues. It’s weird to think that I’ve been out for a year now. I recently got a letter from Elder Brandon Wong, in Texas. He’s going home within the next month or so I believe. He’s already having his brother sign him up for classes at McGill (University). Time flies too fast! I know it’s still early, but I do wonder just exactly what I want to do when I get home…

This last Sunday we did a blitz in the town (and ward) of Ripon. I was paired up with a priest named Matty, and we had a lot of fun! Right now the Manteca stake has challenged all the members to invite (collectively) two-thousand and ten people to hear the missionary lessons — this year (2010). It’s a great idea, and me and Matty had a fun time pumping members up and teaching them how to invite their friends. One of them members we visited, a senior couple, had served a mission in Toronto, so I had a nice chat about how awesome Canada is… Eh?

Well, that’s all folks, I hope everyone has a great week. Till next time,

Love,
Elder Hamish Macpherson
